MIR-41000 Mirror Silver (Mirror Effect Screen Ink for PC and Treated PET Film)

MIR-41000 Mirror Silver Screen Printing Ink provides excellent printability for PC and treated PET film. It is also eco-friendly since chlorine vinyl acetate copolymer is not used in this product. It can replace metallizing plate, which results in eco-friendly products at competitive prices, and is applicable for home electric appliances, mobile phones, etc.

Application & Substrate

Provides mirror-like effect on PC and/or treated PET film. Replaces metallized films, hot stamping foils and metallizing plate.
Applicable for display panels of home electric appliances, numeric keypads for mobile phones, membrane switches and other products.

Special Features

Excellent Printability: compared with other mirror inks, the MIR-41000 has better thixotropy, suitable viscosity and good printability. It is also applicable for printing patterns such as offprint and convex letters.
Excellent finish, printability, and price: provides better mirror finish and printability compared with our MIR-8100 Mirror Silver and is competitively priced.
Eco-friendly: eco-friendly since no hazardous substances such as metallizing plate or chlorine vinyl acetate copolymer are used.

Thinning & Cleaning

Basically, no thinning is needed. However, if needed, please use C-002 solvent. Do not use any other solvent since it may damage adhesiveness, mirror effect, etc.
Please use Teikoku Screen Cleaner N for cleaning.

Printing

Following are the printing conditions for the MIR-41000 Ink:

Stencil Mesh: T-300 Mesh
Thinning: No thinning needed; printable without thinning.
Drying: More than 30 minutes at 80℃ (forced drying)
Catalyst: No hardener needed; printable without hardener. However, use hardener when printing on poor adhesion substrates and/or for insert molding applications.

  • When printing on poor adhesion substrates, use 106 Catalyst. When using 106 Catalyst, the ratio (MIR-41000:106 Catalyst) is 100:1
  • For the insert molding application, use 200 Catalyst. When using 200 Catalyst, the ratio (MIR-41000:200 Catalyst) is 100:3.
Add Catalysts just before printing and mix well.

Before using, it is important to stir the ink well as ingredients may have separated over time. Coverage of 40-50m2/kg can be expected with T-300 mesh.
MIR-41000 itself adheres to the substrate, but in order to improve scratch-resistance, the degree of brilliance and other resistance properties, overprinting is strongly recommended.

Teikoku’s MIB Series of inks are recommended for the overprint ink.
The thickness of the dried ink should be less than 3 microns, otherwise the Mirror Ink layer might be delaminated.
For the squeegee, 70-80 degree hardness and 70-80 degree angle are recommended.

Drying

Heated drying is strongly recommended. More than 30 minutes at 80℃ is required.
If the MIB ink is printed as an overprint before the Mirror Ink is dry enough, the Mirror Ink layer might peel where the interlayer and the overprint layer meet.

Overprinting:

Print overprint ink after printing MIR-41000 in order to improve scratch-resistance, the degree of brilliance and other resistance properties although MIR-41000 itself adheres to the substrate.

Teikoku’s MIB Series of inks are recommended for the overprint ink.

Printing conditions when overprinting with MIB Ink are:

Stencil Mesh: T-250 to T-300 mesh
Thinning: F-002 or F-003 solvent at 15% (recommended). Do not use any other solvent since it may damage adhesiveness, mirror effect, etc.
Drying: 30 minutes at 80℃
Catalyst: 240 Catalyst
Additive amount of the Catalyst: (MIB Ink:240 Catalyst) is 100:10

For standard colors, please refer to the product information of the MIB Ink Series. If color-matching of the MIB Ink Series is needed, please contact Teikoku.

Caution:

Before a commercial run, preliminary tests must be done at your site under actual conditions to check the mirror effect and adhesiveness.

Viscosity of the residual ink on the stencil will be higher than virgin ink. The residual ink should not be mixed with the virgin ink. It can be collected in a container and reused after reducing the viscosity to that of the virgin ink with C-002 solvent. Moreover, before using the collected ink for a commercial run, please check the finish of the coating first.

Hazard Classification:

Flammable;   UN Class: Not applied;   UN No.: Not applied

Safety and Handling

Use safety gloves and eyeglasses to protect skin and eyes. If the ink or coating contacts the skin, wash with plenty of water and soap. In case of contact with eyes, wash with plenty of water and consult with a doctor.

Containers should be tightly closed immediately after use and stored in a cool, dark place.

MSDS is available. Please ask for a copy and read it carefully before handling materials.
Please follow all instructions carefully and use all ink products responsibly.
