MIR 9100 Mirror Screen Ink (Mirror Effect Screen Ink for PC and Treated PET Film)

MIR 9100 Mirror Ink can provide better mirror finish than our prior Mirror Inks when printed on the backside of PC (polycarbonate) and treated PET film. It may substitute metalized film and hot stamping. As it does not contain Cellosolve solvent, it is a human and environmentally friendly ink.

Application & Substrate

Provides mirror-like effect to PC and/or treated PET film and may be able to substitute metalized films and hot stamping foils.

Special Features

Excellent mirror finish and may be used to substitute metalized films and hot stamping foils.
Good opacity to prevent color change by dark colored back print.
Good on-stencil stability and higher viscosity, and suitable to print fine letters, positive or negative.

Thinning & Cleaning

Stir well before every use. The ink can be used without thinning at normal condition.
When thinning is needed, use C-002 Solvent up to 0-30%.
Do not use other solvent or may suffer blocking, poor mirror effect or lack of adhesion.
“Screen Cleaner N” is recommended to clean the stencil.

Printing

PC and treated PET film are the recommended substrates.
At first, print patterns or mirror frames first with inks suitable for the substrate, then print the Mirror Ink on backside of the substrate, and then overprint. This ink can adhere to the substrates. But overprinting is strongly recommended to avoid mechanical scratches and to enhance the mirror effect and resistances. As overprinting ink we recommend Teikoku MIB Ink.
T-250-300 is recommended as stencil. Thickness of the dried ink should be less than 3 microns, otherwise the Mirror Ink layer might peel at the interlayer with the overprint layer.
For the squeegee, 70-80 degree hardness and 60-70 degree angle are recommended.
Coverage of 40-50 m2/kg can be expected with T-250 mesh.

Drying

Heated drying is strongly recommended. More than 30 minutes at 50°C would be necessary. When printing on PC substrate, heating at higher than 60°C with wet ink on the substrate might cause whitening of the substrate. Treated PET will not get whitening, but A-PET may get whitening.

Additives

MIR 9000 Medium Base: To increase adhesion, add 0-30%. But mirror effect may be decreased.
MIR 9001 Mirror effect decreaser: Add 0-30%. Mirror effect can be decreased.
106 Catalyst:

Add up to 1%. Adhesion to PC, which easily attacked by solvent, can be increased without harm of mirror effect. The mixed ink also can adhere to hard-to-adhere surface such as some kinds of hard coated sheet. Pot life is about 4 hours.

Overprinting:

After the Mirror ink is dried completely, over printing with MIB Ink is recommended to prevent scratches on the mirror layer.

Standard colors of MIB Ink are as under.

000 Medium
001 Victoria
168 Scarlet
178 Red

182 Brilliant Red
238 Light Yellow
277 Opaque Reddish Yellow
391 Blue
519 Orange
581 Magenta
611 White
791 Green
821 Violet
911 Black

Printing conditions of cover print with MIB Ink are:

Coverage with T-250 would be 40m2/kg.
Pot life after adding Catalyst is about 3-4 hours.

Caution:

Viscosity of the residual ink on the stencil will be higher than virgin ink. Residual ink should not be mixed with virgin ink. It can be collected in a container and reused after reducing the viscosity to that of the virgin ink with C-002.
Preliminary test must be done at your site with actual conditions before a commercial run.

Safety and Handling

Flammable:     UN Class: Not applied.            UN No.: Not applied.

Use safety gloves and eyeglasses to protect skin and eyes. If the ink or coating contacts the skin, wash with plenty of water and soap. In case of contact with the eyes, wash with plenty of water and consult with a doctor. Containers should be tightly closed immediately after use, and stored in a dark and cool place.

MSDS is available. Please ask for a copy, and read it carefully before handling materials. Please follow the instruction.
