IMB 003 Binder
(Binder for FIM/IMD)

IMB 003 Binder is a screen printable binder that adheres injected resin to an ink surface printed with 2pack inks. IMB 003 was developed as a substitute for Teikoku's IMB 002 Binder and IMB 00314 binder because it uses safer solvents.

Special Features
1. Safety
IMB 003 does not contain benzol, toluol, xylol, cycrohexanone or isophorone; therefore it is environmentally friendly and safe for humans.
2. Adhesion
it has good adhesion to a wide variety of substrates such as ABS resin and PMMA resin.
3. Screen printable
it is screen printable and can be applied specifically to the desired area.

1. Applications

Binder between injected resin and printed sheet of PC or PET printed with 2pack inks.
Good adhesion to injected resins such as PC, PC/ABS, ABS, AS, PMMA.
Screen printable and as a result, applicable to desired area only.
Being a one pack evaporation dry ink, it is easy to handle.

2. Printing and drying conditions

(1)
Thinning is not necessary. Can be printed without thinning. When thinning is needed, thin with F-002 (Standard), and F-003 (Slow drying) at less than 5%.
Other solvents should not be used to avoid problems with adhesion, etc.
(2)
Printing
T 200-250 is recommended.
(3)
Drying
Tack free drying time at room temperature: At 25 degrees Celsius, about 5 minutes, at 80 degrees Celsius, 2 minutes. Since residual solvent will harm the molding property, heated drying must be done including the pattern printing ink. The final drying should be done at the final drying conditions for the pattern printing ink.
(4)
Pattern printing.
Inks for pattern printing should be selected according to the substrate and injection molding conditions. We recommend our IPS ink or INS ink to print on PC or treated PET.
3.Insert molded adhesion test

(1)
Specimen Printing Conditions
Test Ink: IPS 971 Black. Substrate: PC 0.5mm thick. (EC 100 made by Tsutsunaka Plastics Co.). Printing: T-250 mesh. Thinning: IPS-002 Solvent 10%. Mixing: 240 Catalyst 10%. Drying: 60 minutes at 80 degrees Celsius (Box drying)
(2)
Test method
Insert the specimen made as above into the mold and inject ABS melt resin onto the binder printed surface.
Cut 10mm width strip in the specimen and pull it out to peel it from the specimen at a 180-degree angle using Tensilon at 300mm/min. speed.
(3)
Results.
Tested Ink Tested Binder 180 degree peel strength
IPS 971 Black IMB 009 Binder 1.6-2.8 kgf/cm
IPS 971 Black IMB 003 Binder 5.9-6.5 kgf/cm

4. Caution

(1)
In forming processes such as vacuum forming, pressurized air forming and mold forming in the injection molding process, many conditions affect the quality of the final products such as substrate, pattern printing inks, printing conditions, sequence of printings, drying conditions, injection resins, design of the mold, and injection-molding conditions.
It is strongly recommended that preliminary tests be conducted at your site under actual conditions before starting production runs.
(2)
The binder cannot be used mixed with inks.
